If you’re like me, you'll love an autumn/winter break, especially after a hectic summer season. You’d think I’d want to leave Cornwall and explore new places, but we have so much on our doorstep. It’s good to get out in Cornwall when the mad rush has subsided, the beaches are deserted, the roads are clear and the restaurants provide a warm welcome without the wait.

The Eden Project
If you live in Devon or Cornwall, October sees the launch of the Local’s Pass, and this year, it has been extended to cover the whole year, so you can always come back again for special events, or a Spring/summer break. Priced at £24.80 for an adult, it is 35% cheaper to buy a locals pass this Autumn. Activities across the season include ice skating, Christmas lights, candlelight concerts, and a Christmas fair.
Lost Gardens of Heligan

This 200 acre garden has so much going on over the Autumn and also offers a Local’s Pass for £30 per annum, so you can come back throughout the year and see all that the different seasons have to offer. The gardens comprise a network of paths that take visitors across rope bridges, through jungle, walled gardens, and woodlands with sleeping giants and ancient trees. The gardens are also home to farm animals, as well as a large collection of ancient rhododendrons, tree ferns and camelias. This season visit the Heligan Night Garden, a wonderful spectacle of lights and lanterns which transform the gardens into a twinkling wonderland that appeals to all ages.

Padstow has many opportunities to sample produce from Rick Stein, from his flagship Seafood Restaurant to fish and chips, a delicatessen and St Petroc’s Bistro. The Bistro is offering a special lunchtime special this autumn/winter for £17.95, which is a great opportunity to sample some of Stein’s culinary expertise, at a perfectly reasonable price.*

Padstow is also home to one of the most popular Christmas fayres in the UK.
From 4th to 7th of December, in addition to the variety of eateries and shops around the harbour, the town hosts Padstow Christmas Fayre. The town becomes home to celebrity chefs, family activities, fireworks, stalls selling artisan food and drink, as well as a having a vibrant programme of culinary masterclasses. Free entry, although some activities may require a fee and pre-booking.
